I'm thinking of building a FAS for assassination missions and short combat duties. 4 million is easier to lose than 8 and it's a bit better for ranged work than the FDL.
Stealth seems like a good option for this kind of thing.

Here's my outline so far. I'm wondering whether to drop the shield entirely and fit more HRPs and a larger fuel tank.

Stealth FAS is widely used in the PvP meta at the moment.

I'm probably not in a great position to offer advice about it though because, a. I don't like the FAS and, b. I'm not a big fan of stealth builds in expensive ships.

The only comment I would make is that the mil spec composites are probably worth it for something like this.

You can probably swap the gimballed beams for fixed ones - gimbals are of limited use when they're so far back and you'll appreciate the extra slug of damage. It's so manoeuvrable that you won't feel the difference much. Only downside to that is ability to snipe modules.

Chaff is of limited use in a ship that size too.

Try dropping the shields. With that much armour you'll shrug off nearly everything. Without your shields your heat signature will be way lower, making you harder to detect, and you'll be able to run silent for longer before you overheat.
