Ok, so in my small fleet, I currently have:
Sidewinder - System Scannign Cobra - Data mission runner Asp Explorer - Long Range Smuggler Viper MkIII - Party Combat Ship Vulture - Regular Combat Ship Keelback - Miner Imperial Eagle - Planet Hopper
So what should I look to buy next? I'm thinking either a combat-wombat (FDL or Python) or save up for a big hauler.
Thoughts appreciated.

Python could easily be both a combat ship and a hauler.

I love the general purpose nature of the Python. FDL is good fun but only does the one thing.

What's the cargo space availability of the Python?

I think mine is about 225, and that's with a few nods to versatility, like shields. It has the best cargo capacity bar the big three and the Type 9. It also has phenomenal weaponry.

Big three are Anaconda, Cutter and Corvette.
My Python normally has 192t cargo space with a lot of other crap. That went down to 128t when I added a huge refinery too.

In which case, I think I'll start looking at Python builds and working out how much I have to save up.

The most expensive bits are the A grade C7 power plant and military grade composites - neither of which are necessary for most things. It's got oodles of power even with just a C6.

Solid looking build. Huge armor will be a real bonus.
The only thing I would say is that on the big ships dual chaff isn't that useful. You'll probably get better mileage from another booster.
That's just one man's opinion though.

Cheers :-)
I think the philosophy of that Python is along the lines of "I can cargo haul and stop off in a haz-rez mid journey to break it up a bit."

Rob calls it 'fishing'. Your cargo ensures the pirates come to you.
