Phineas Hector Souvarine
Similar thinking to Al - a reference for blog posts and character canon.
Overview
Souvarine is a charismatic explorer. He is bitingly witty and relies on his silver tongue rather than guns to get him out of trouble.
Character and background stuff to remember when writing posts
- He comes from a quite noble Imperial family.
- He doesn't know where his family is. They left their planet during a war when Souvarine was a teenager.
- His father was a proper alpha male and an officer in the Imperial Navy. Souvarine is definitely not a proper alpha male, and his family always considered him a bit of an embarrassment.
- He is Imperial through and through. Although he hates being part of institutions and hierarchies he can't help but feel part of the Empire.
- He is invested in the lore and the politics of Elite.
- He's particularly interested in evidence of aliens and that ongoing storyline.
- He considers it stupid to fight for the sake of fighting, and avoids fighting if he can.
- He is a decidedly middling combat pilot.
- He is all about keeping a low profile and staying under the radar.
- As such, he is an excellent smuggler (although he keeps that quiet)
- He is very restless and often goes off into the black on his own.
- He is a planner and a thinker, not an impulsive reactor. As such he can at times save more uncompromising / impulsive characters from themselves!
Other bits of trivia
- He is building a fleet of ships called the Souvarine Space Fleet. All his ships have the prefix 'SSF' before their names.
- He made a lot of money smuggling in his twenties, though he prefers to make out that he made his money discovering untouched mineral deposits out in space.
- He dresses in high Imperial style - frock coat, high boots, neckerchief etc. Characters like Dexter Vex and Ronnie Kane might find him a bit of a dandy. He also has muttonchops (avatar creator-allowing).
- He has a mangy cat called Margot. He found her in an escape pod amongst the wreckage of a ship.
- He is not a big drinker and gets drunk easily. He will often say no to a drink, or have only one.
- He does like tea a great deal though, and has an amateur interest in rare blends.
- He is not mechanically minded. He would have no idea how to carry out repairs on his ships himself, and finds conversations about how ships work quite boring.
Long term development
Souvarine's storyline will broadly follow that of the overarching storyline of Elite, so rather than having a load of character growth or mysteries surrounding him, he'll follow the events in the game.
