DV had a very good idea that, given that RK is our Imperial Envoy, this could be reflected in the narrative by his being recruited by the Octopus to act as her unofficial conduit to Imperial High Command.
I thought I might have a bash at writing this and wanted your input.
IPEC is ostensibly a private for-profit military contractor. As such, any link to the Emperor's office would need to be unofficial and deniable. However, IPEC acts as an unofficial Imperial intelligence agency, so close ties between Imperial high command and the Octopus are to be expected.
RK is ex Navy, and has been going to and from Kamadhenu for months (fortifying, as it happens). Perhaps the Octopus spotted this, and correctly guessed that he has in fact been acting as a military adviser to the Emperor's administration. Recognising his usefulness, she recruits him.
What I really want to know is: what would motivate RK to accept the Octopus' offer? DV suggested that the Octopus gives him the Cow of Plenty as a reward ("the job comes with a company vehicle") which is a great shout. I think there should be some kind of personal motivation as well though.
These recruitment posts are a good way to demonstrate just how adept the Octopus is at reading people and knowing which buttons to push. The question is: what would work with RK? He's only role playing as himself after all! My feeling, knowing him, is that he would respond best if she presented it as fun. A big new adventure. But what do you guys think?
My guess at how she would approach each character:
Sou: find a new home and family, advance the interests of the Empire
Vex: Do bad things for a good reason. Don't let your friends down.
RK: it'll be fun! A natural extension of your current activities.
Al-Poc: Approaches at bar, offers to buy drink, neither party remembers much of the conversation in the morning (or so would be claimed. May be fun the Octopus saying she has a sore head when talking to Sou the next morning)
