So I totally stripped down my X-55 last week, cleaned out its rotational axis, lubricated and reassembled. However, it is still very creaky and, I fear, not long for this world. Which kinda sucks for 5 month's use on a £200 joystick.
Are there any more robust joysticks than the X-55? I don't require as many buttons and switches as it has (I am only using about half of them), but it has to have a really robust rotational axis as I have that set to roll and use it pretty much constantly.

That makes 3/4 of us who have had problems with Saitek sticks...
The Warthog is considered the best and appears to be made out of girders by German panel-beaters. RK has one.

The warthog is certainly solid. And is a replica of a real combat tested stick. The improved design really shows. Only downside is that it has no twist stick.

That's the issue, I could actually get away with one that was only twist and pitch as I rarely use the left/right axis. I'll do some hunting and see what there is. If there isn't much out there I may go for more of a budget stick like the Saitek Cyborg and just accept that I'll have to replace every so often.

I would have thought that the twist axis is most likely to be the weakest link on most sticks.
For what it's worth - the X52 is very good for ED and, while it suffers from the same build quality issues, would be cheaper to routinely replace.
I'm going to buy a Warthog fairly soon (1-2 months) and mine will be up for grabs.
