As Tom and I are both setting out on a bit of an explore, we thought it would be good to tie some of the story into this - especially as we're looking on building that relationship a bit in the cannon.
I have had an initial idea for how to set this up:
Log 1 - Sou: The Octopus is well aware of Sou and Vex's bust up, once IPEC have secured Candysticks she makes a suggestion to Sou along the lines of:
"You have done well in securing the system. However, I see that the stress of doing so has told on you and your colleagues. I would suggest that you take a short break, maybe chase those aliens you seem so keen on. Oh, and why don't you take Vex's drunk with you, no reason why he should be left kicking around here messing up our new stations."
The implication really being that the Octopus is using Sou to try to find out more about Al. She may also have some interest in the alien activity as well.
Log 2 - Sou & Al: However Sou convinces Al to come on this trip.
Log 3 - Al's preparations: Pretty much what actually happened to me last night in it taking far longer with more station stops than it should have to find some fuel tanks and a fuel scoop.
Lot 4 - Betelgeuse: Start of things getting more interesting, though does also include Al bodging a planetary landing without any shields on, despite warnings from Sou.
Further logs as and when we work them out.
Thoughts?

I really like the idea that the Octopus' ulterior motive is to discover more about Al. Good thinking. One obstacle we have is that we're going in different directions in game - you're heading to Barnard's Loop and I'm heading here: forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=252932So how should we handle that in the story?

I think we can assume we're travelling together in the story and end up in both areas throughout the plot?
