After many hours in the car to kill over the last couple of days I’ve been thinking – always a dangerous development. I’m going to reset my character. This is for a few reasons. One is that I’ve always liked the early part of RPG’s; it’s fun, and that initial climb is great as you always feel like you’re making progress.
I’m also getting a bit bored with writing Vex. He’s just so fucking dour and miserable. And he’s also rather 2 dimensional.
Finally, I also want to play a female character. ED has been unusual as it’s one of the only RPG’s I’ve played where my main character isn’t a woman.
So I’m going to kill Vex. The broad outline of the next few weeks/months of posts is this.
1. Introduce the new character – Tanith Low. I’ll draw up a character bio for her shortly.
2. Tanith is the daughter of Samuel, Vex’s former owner and friend. Over the course of a few posts it is going to be apparent that Tanith is looking for Vex – the man who avenged her father’s death. This is going to be mixed in with her learning the ropes of being a Commander so it will be rather drip fed. Most of the posts will be day to day goings on.
3. After a few more she will track Vex down and discover that he has died. Her next port of call will be to find his next of kin, Souvarine. After several more posts she will track Souvarine down, and it will be her who break the news of Vex’s death. Sou will introduce her to the rest of the Dangerous Characters and IPEC, though she won’t initially join.
4. Further down the line Vex’s black box will be recovered. In it there will be the last few posts from Vex, detailing the mission that Octopus sent him on to Archon Delaine space and the role he played in Delaine’s downfall. It will also cover his thoughts on the argument with Souvarine and hopefully allow for a posthumous resolution of those issues.
The idea is that I don’t want to kill vex and then introduce a new character straight away. I would rather introduce Tanith, let the reader get to know her, then kill Vex so that the transition feels more gradual.
