Excuse me if this has already been discussed.
But the rank system lacks military background for myself, lords and dukes and barons become so historically through military or diplomatic prowess. So the military should therefore reflect a more structured approach.
My thinking is that the Imperial Navy is split into Legions, each supplied with one Navy Capital Class ship (Provided there are enough). Each legion has your classic squadrons, flights and sub units. But a Legate of Imperial Marines as well and a supply chain, as well as a military outpost for central command of the Legions.
Though questions to be asked would be.
1. Who is overall command of the Imperial Fleet? The Emperor or an appointed Senator, such as Patreus.
2.Is it acceptable for military training to be centralised in, say, Cubeo. Away from the frontlines.
4. That the navy follows a similar rank structure to the Royal Navy of today to make writing easier?

Good thinking.
The answer to Q1 is definitely Denton Patreus. This was stated in Galnet after Emperor's Dawn were defeated. He's in charge of the Imperial Navy overall.
I've read a few of the official novels and standard navy ranks are used in those, as far as I remember.
As for the military training and other aspects, I have no idea. It's not something we've ever had reason to consider as all our characters are freelancers (bar RK who doesn't write). Anybody else know?
My feeling would be that the best bet would be to look for clues on the roleplay subforum on the Frontier Forums and see if anyone's addressed it. If there's no answer elsewhere feel free to improvise. Given that we haven't addressed it, we'll stick with however you want to play it.

The fed culture follows a similar rank structure to today's navy. The imperium traditionally follows a feudal system where those who demonstrate loyalty or do favours are promoted through non military ranks to positions where their duties include maintaining an army for the emperor's use.
The likes of Facece and Achenar do house military training grounds. I'd recommend talking to Jubei Himura or Endincite about that - both can be found on the Ald discord.
