So I have a message through that a large parcel has arrived for me at home. I am hopeful that it's my new X55.
Are there any vagueries when it comes to installing and setting up this stick (Windows 7 64bit) or is it just a standard driver install and fully game compatible?

Ooooh. Shiney.
Download the driver and software from saitek first. Install the driver with the stick un-plugged and about half way through it'll ask you to plug it in. Then install the software to set up macro's and the like.
If you plug it in first windows will just install default HOTAS drivers which won't recognise all the buttons and axis. Then saitek will freak when you try and install the proper drivers.
2 other bits of advice. Play through the tutorials again binding functions as you go. It's actually quicker than trying to do it in the game and will let you try out different variations.
Second, I have 4 elastic bands around the stick where my ring finger sits to make it easier to grip. I have dry hands and it's a little hard to grip the stick for the yaw.
Enjoy.

Cheers, I'll enjoy getting it set up tonight. I'm looking forwards to having enough buttons to do everything and being able to have macros set up.
