I thought this might be useful so that none of us take the character off on a tangent that doesn't sit right with the others.
I'm the only one that's written her yet, so have sketched out a little of her character, but it's a group effort so feel free to flesh this out.
The idea for the Octopus came from a need to have a something to anchor our characters to IPEC - a roleplay reason, given that they didn't found IPEC themselves. It is also a way to give a personality and a face to the background simulation, as Rob put it very well.
Some important guidelines for the character that I think might be worth adhering to:
1. We want her appearances to be impactful. Therefore, I suggest we keep them well-written and rare.
2. She's not an action character - I don't think she should be flying around in spaceships and dogfighting. In order for her to be the brains behind IPEC she really needs to remain the lady in the ivory tower, so to speak.
3. She's a master manipulator - as witnessed by the way she convinces Souvarine to work for her. She has a way of pushing just the right buttons with people to get the result she wants. This is helped by her phenomenal access to information.
4. She is ex-Naval Intelligence, so she has something of a military manner about her.
5. She's quite striking, although hardly a pin-up. She is very adept at using coquettish behaviour and flirting to get what she wants though.
6. She is rigidly driven and principled, although she appreciates that life is very rarely black and white. She is masterful at navigating the grey area in between.
Some things about her past:
1. When she was a junior intelligence officer at some point in the 2990s she was inserted as an undercover agent into a smuggling ring that Souvarine was part of, as his co-pilot. Souvarine knew this, but had to keep it quiet. This hasn't been fleshed out and the assumption is that she got the information she needed about his contacts and then left.
2. At some point during this time she met and was involved with Vex. We haven't fleshed out whether this was purely physical or not. Vex was never aware that she was actually an undercover agent, and so the assumption is that he was hurt and angry when she abruptly left. Souvarine did know about her, but chose not to tell Vex.
