Ronan made a slightly tongue in cheek comment the other day that the RES at Candecama had dried up because he'd been killing all the pirates. It's almost certainly why the influence of the pirate faction in Cande has shrunk. However it got me thinking (always dangerous), and having had a look and seen some of the posts on the forums I'm not sure that faction influence affects the RES spawns at all. We all know that we sometimes get good spawns and bad spawns based on the roll of a die. The possible outcomes of the roll are based on the type of RES and nothing else. In fact one of the complaints from people who are really into the BGS is that you can't over farm a RES. I may be wrong here but I think we may have a case of "Post Hoc Ergo Proptor Hoc" here. We've had a string of bad dice rolls and attributed that to our sterling work killing a whole shit load of pirates. Unfortunately it looks like we're assuming a level of complexity from the BGS which is, at present, not there. I mention this because I don't think we need to worry about over farming the RES in our new system. If we get a bad roll of the dice we just all jump out and then back in again to re-roll.

That's heartening in so far as we can shoot pirates with impunity in our own back yard. But ultimately it will be nice when the BGS is advanced to the point that factions' NPC spawns are linked to their influence.
